Gender equality is something that our nation struggled with many decades ago and still does now. In retrospect, we struggled with balancing the differences between each human being and it took many years to realize that we are all alike in some way or another. Yet, women who happen to play a big part in our society are still finding themselves disrespected when it comes to their dignity, career opportunities, lack of income compared to men, reproductive rights, gender role stereotyping, and so on. In the fight for equality, females are becoming the force of nature that intend to make things right and make up a greater population of the change makers and innovators in society.

The stories surrounding the topic of women highlight what they face in society and how they feel about their mistreatment. In the Fight for Women’s Suffrage article, the History.com editors explain how abolitionists in the past had to continuously change their approach in order to appeal to the public about equal rights. Being part of this social group shows that you must fight for what you deserve and show others that females earn the same amount of respect as men. Individuals belonging to this group might describe themselves as resilient, determined, stubborn, goal-oriented, strong, and resistant to failure. I share experiences with these individuals because I am also a female and have witnessed the mistreatment and false assumptions of women. Women should be entitled to their own opinions and I find it inspirational that women in this generation are being appointed to authoritative careers such as politics, law, medical positions, and business that were previously dominated by men.

There are many different types of individuals in the female population. Differences include ethnicities, religions, LGBTQ beliefs, cultures, political views, and opinions on many controversial topics. Despite these variations, women still feel the need to band together and stand up against the government and general public about sexism and other mistreatments. Gender equality has been a goal of primarily women around the world and this applies to all parts of society ranging from education to sports to careers. Many women face challenges when it comes to doing what they want, and many times they are deemed not capable of a task or considered to be contradicting their gender role as assumed by society. In 1920, women were finally given the right to vote and this was considered a huge success in the female movement. Just recently in 2016, the Department of Defense opened all combat positions in the United States military to female troops for the first time. These successes motivate the female population and it would be momentous if a woman were to be elected as the next U.S. President. The next big movement is NASA planning to send the first woman ever to the moon in 2024 according to a CNN article. With each passing year, females are becoming a considerable force to be reckoned with and will fight to build a balanced society of women and men.
Some challenges that women face are discrimination in the workplace, sexual harassment, and falling victim to belittling stereotypes such that women are assumed to be weak, dramatic, emotional, fragile, or incapable. In the past or even now in corrupt countries, women were considered the housekeepers and were instructed to remain at home and serve out their duties. Times have changed drastically since then, yet women still fight for their individual rights such as being allowed the decision of abortion which has come up recently in the news. The signing of the law that banned abortion sparked a wave of anger and protest across the nation as women became furious with their reproductive rights being stripped away. Still, many individuals are pro-life and supported this declaration. This event shows how controversy and unrest still remain in our society when it comes to government/state decisions and the reaction it receives from the public across the country. There are ways for females to make a stand though against discrimination including the Women’s March and #MeToo Movement which brought down 201 powerful men from their jobs according to The New York Times. Speaking up and standing out has allowed women to show the nation the struggles they face and bring justice to those who were accused such as Harvey Weinstein and Matt Lauer. These movements of justice have allowed females to mark their place in the world and show that they cannot and will not be manipulated.

In conclusion, women are a diverse group of strong individuals with the ability to identify injustice and fight for what is right. Many stories on the web and around the world provide evidence for the many years that women have been fighting and what results from it. The differences within the female population have proven completely unrelated when it comes to their protests and it doesn’t slow them down whatsoever. Women are most commonly victimized by lack of power and stereotyping in society and these lead to economic inequality, sexual harassment, and other forms of disrespect. Events like the annual Women’s March in January provide a gateway for females to address the public of unfair challenges that this group faces. Women, men, and children all participate to show their support. With gradual progress, women and others are working to ensure equality among everyone in our world.
