ADHD is a condition caused by a neurodevelopmental disorder. To educate people about ADHD, it is important to consider the stereotypes, diagnoses, and medicine surrounding individuals in this group.
Many people stereotype ADHD and think it just means you are hyper all the time but that’s not true. It goes deeper than having a lot of energy. ADHD is a combination of multiple issues that interfere with the person’s school work, job, and social life. These issues include but are not limited to inattentiveness, impulsiveness, hyperactivity, etc. Some people also think that just because they can’t “focus” means that they have ADHD. ADHD does not have one symptom but many. Also, you cannot outgrow ADHD, it carries on into adulthood.

Many young kids are misdiagnosed with ADHD and some pharmaceutical companies take advantage of parents who don’t have the energy to deal with their kid who is just merely hyper and does not exhibit any other signs of having ADHD, and since the standard clinical practice guidelines are to recommend getting a prescription written for a stimulant, most young kids get put on them at a young age even if though they don’t need them. By getting a prescription written for ritalin to help treat their kid, the pharmaceutical companies increase their profits by marketing their medications using that method, resulting in the doctors who performed the diagnostic getting a bigger paycheck. Also, If you’re child is under the age of 12, they cannot be diagnosed so parents should make sure their child is not underage for being diagnosed with ADHD.
