Native Americans

There are many different  Native American tribes, and all of them with a diverse and unique history, and a cultural that is full of traditions. Native Americans in themselves have a lot of diversity depending on which tribe you look at, each with its own identity. Yet some Native American tribes still need help and especially among their youth. There is so much we can do to help Native Americans, but first we need to understand the problems they face, and them.

Native Americans are very unique people each tribe with its own language and traditions. Many people think when they hear Native American is teepees and western movies, but these are just stereotypes that are not true. The truth is they are live like most people in a house and have everyday things. I don’t share a lot of the cultural and traditions that Native Americans have because I’m not Native American. I think based on my reading, that Native Americans might describe themselves as cultural, artististic, spiritual,a warrior, and so much more. Many of their people have been vary valiant war heros, and are strong but respectful.

One of the reasons why Native Americans are a very diverse group of people is because depending on where you are in the United States there are different Native American tribes. Each one with it’s own language and traditions. These groups of people have faced many challenges throughout U.S. history. Many have had their land taken away and, forced to live on reservations. They also were forced to enter into treaties with the U.S. that were unfair and were never honored. Also, many faced racism, but ironically Native Americans specifically Navajos helped the U.S. win WWII. If it wasn’t for their unique language, it would have been very hard for the U.S. to send coded messages with crucial information. A group of Navajo Native Americans developed a secret code that only they could understand, not even other Navajo could understand it. Today it remains the only modern military code that was never deciphered.

There are still Native Americans who face injustice, and some are still the same injustices that they have faced in the past. Many tribes have had their land taken away from them in the past, and put on reservations. Even today their reservations are threatened. In the Onondaga Nation, there is a crude oil pipeline being built that could potentially harm the natural resources and people who live on the reservation. Native Americans need their treaties and land respected by the U.S. government, and others. Also Native American teenagers have the highest suicide rates compared to other groups. Many feel isolated, and some tribes suffer from poverty and substance abuse. A lot of Native American teens say they do not feel included.

Native Americans are a very diverse and unique people, with a rich cultural and traditions, but still there are some who are facing injustices. There are so many who need our help, and there is so much we can do. We can give money, medicine, and we can include others. Also a lot of tribes are still don’t have their treaties honored. Many face danger from construction that can potentially hurt them in the future. But overall I think the biggest thing we can do to help is respect, not only Native Americans but everyone.
