People as a whole tend to sort themselves into different social groups and gatherings to come together in order to find solace and comfort in understanding one another. Over the last hundred or so years some countries, like Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Germany, have been particularly unkind to the homosexual community and has committed great misdeeds against them, like the Stonewall Riot which was started when there was a police raid at the last gay bar in a small town. May I remind you that during those times it was against the law to even dress like a homosexual, let alone get caught in a gay bar. This is about the identity and diversity of the homosexual community and the trials and triumphs that follow their long history that dates back to as early as 2450 BCE according to an Egyptian tomb painting that demonstrates the earliest sign of homosexual relationships.
Over time there have been some qualms and quips made to demonize the homosexual community and their members, despite the long history and acceptance before Christianity (this is no fault of the religion, just the people who preach the bible but forget about verses like 1 Peter 4:8 and Luke 6:37). With these false claims comes belief and often fighting between homosexuals and heterosexuals, but, regardless, they’ve found ways to express themselves throughout the years. Homosexuals would probably describe themselves with three words: natural, loving, and human. As a member of this social group, the biggest difference is in the way people speak or act towards you. Even if they aren’t trying to, others often try to make it your entire identity, leading to homosexuals giving up on trying to make it clear that the only difference between the two of you is what sex you lay with.

In the homosexual community, there is tremendous diversity and variety. Anyone could be homosexual and you may or may not know it, depending on whether or not they are out or if they want to be open about it; homosexuality is an invisible community up until the moment someone claims their membership. Homosexuality is like the U.S.A. of social groups, it has a little bit of everything and everyone, complete diversity and a long, constantly changing history, from being so common that Greek, Egyptian, and Roman gods were often bisexual (liking both sexes with different degrees of interest). So, as it goes to show, homosexuality has a diversity-rich history involving kings and queens, emperors and empresses, Asians and Caucasians. Wherever humanity is, homosexuality is there to follow, leaving behind impressions for their neophytes to understand and appreciate. The homosexuality community doesn’t even miss the perspective of heterosexuals because of bisexuals, and some homophobes could be in denial.
Some outsiders might not understand the underlying fears that homosexuals have when it comes to even just existing. On the outside, it seems like there’s nothing to be afraid of, same-sex marriage is legal, you can’t get arrested for it, there isn’t a death penalty. But you never know, those things could come back, or they could be sent to conversion therapy with the slightest misstep. Perhaps just understanding that the homosexual community only wants to live normal, peaceful lives and leaving them be would be enough; getting everyone off of their case about what sex they lay with. Rather than doing so, right now people tend to assume that all homosexuals are flamboyant Marys or butch Dykes when in reality lesbians and gays and bisexuals could be anyone and you wouldn’t even know it. These stereotypes could negatively affect these people by giving outsiders the idea that all homosexuals are as their stereotypes suggest, and change how they think of them or react to them.

The greatest thing anyone can do is to be an ally and continue to fight for equal rights and acceptance in countries where it is dangerous for homosexuals. Fighting for equality is a top priority because where the people are, homosexuality follows and it might not be safe for them to even just exist as people. If you can’t be safe to love then it isn’t a safe place for anyone to exist. Individually everyone can help by just supporting those they love who are homosexual, because there’s always a fear deep inside that you might reject them as friends or family because of who they are, regardless of what you have said about it in the past. Support is all anyone could ask for, because with support they will know you accept them and others like them, to give them a safe world to live in.
