LGBTQ+

On June 28th,1969 a fight broke out in front of the “Stone wall inn” in New York city. The inn had a bar that was owned by a mafia the mafia bribed the police to allow it to be a gay bar. Then one night at the inn, nine police officers walked into the gay bar in a raid. when the people at the bar saw them it began a riot. The police hid from the people by going into the stone wall and the people set it on fire. The police managed to escape, but after that night the LGBTQ+ community started a cry for gay rights.
Back in the early 70’s being gay was shunned upon and it was also illegal. If you were gay you could be put into federal prison. But now in the 21st century being part of the LGBTQ+ community isn’t illegal.
The individuals in this group are all different in the way that not everyone is gay some people in this group are transgender or even questioning their sexuality. The people of this social group all have different personalities that they show in there own way. A challenge that they all have to face is what the public thinks of them because there are people out there that are against gay individuals.
Now we all celebrate by having parades and festive events to show the accomplishment of freedom and to spread awareness and acceptance around the world. A way you can support is by participating in parades and getting to meet different people of your community.
