The social group I chose to write about is the LGBTQ community.The stories show that the experience of being in this social group can be a good one and a bad one all wrapped in one.Some words that the LGBTQ community use to describe themselves are free,expressive,different.Some experiences that I’ve shared with individuals in this social group are being able to talk to them and hear their stories,I’ve gotten to hang out with them and witness their great personalities.I’ve also had experiences with myself because I am in this social group.I am bisexual which is something not a lot of people understand.

People in this social group are different from one another in many ways.Some of them like to dress in drag and some don’t, some like to dress like the opposite gender and some don’t,some like both genders and some like only one.Some successes in this group that are unique are same sex marriage has become legal and tv shows are starting to show more gay couples.Some challenges in this group that are unique are being bullied or harassed by the public for simply loving who you love or being scared to tell their friends and family who they are because they’re afraid of what their response would be.Some challenges that affect these individuals that others might have a hard time understanding is being afraid to tell people who you really are and how you feel because being judged is such a big thing.

To understand the challenges these individuals face I think people should do their research and talk to these individuals about their everyday life.Some assumptions people might make about individuals in this group are that they are loud and eccentric because that’s how the media portrays them but some people in the LGBTQ communtiy are quiet and introverted.Stereotypes can negatively affect individuals that identify with this social group by painting a picture of this social group that’s not really who they are.Communities can organize different clubs or events for this social group where they can talk about how they are feeling and interact with people and not be judged because everyone around them has something in common with them.As for me to support this social group I could help people that are in the same predicament that I was in where they feel alone and have no one to talk to.I could give them advice about how to come out of their shell.
