LGBTQ Community Rights

Throughout history the LGBTQ community has always been given a hard time no matter what laws and acts have been put in place. In 2012 the law to make same sex marriage legal was overturned and it took the government until 2015 to finally make it legal. Students who are transgender couldn’t even have access to the right bathrooms until 2015. I think people including myself need to learn more about the struggles and history about the LGBTQ community. The LGBTQ comunity faces challenges relating to identity, diversity, and justice.

The stories I’ve read have shown me how many struggles that the LGBTQ community goes through. In one of the stories an eight year old transgender boy had been kicked out of his boy scout troop once the leaders found out he was born. a female. Later once Joe’s parents made a complaint about what happened the rules about gender were changed so he was allowed in the troop again but Joe felt different and he wasn’t sure he wanted to go back to the troop after what happened.

In the LGBTQ community there are a lot of different names used instead of saying LGBTQ. According to gay star news LGBTQ is too limiting so they came up with the term LGBTTIQQ2SA which stands for  Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, 2-Spirited and Allies. This way everyone is included and it's not just limited to LGBTQ. I relate to this struggle because i am still questioning but in LGBTQ the Q stands for queer not questioning and the adriviation that gar star news uses it incorporates question which makes me feel more like a part of the community.

Everyone in the LGBTQ community is different based on the sexuality of the person. If someone is gay they would most likely go through different struggles then a transgender person would. Some people think that being gay is a bad thing and there has been incidents were people who are part of the LGBTQ community had been denied a job. In this article  the CEO of apple Tim Cook came out as gay which is a huge accomplishment. A perspective missing from this is first hand because a lot of people who haven’t come out as LGBTQ because there are a lot of people who know they are a part of the community but haven’t said anything because they are scared about what people are going to say about them.

People in the LGBTQ community face a lot of challenges that people who aren’t apart of it wouldn’t. Some of the challenges are being afraid of not being accepted by your family. Most people don’t have to fear this because your family should love you because of you but some parents don’t understand that and won’t accept their children once they come out as LGBTQ. People could try and image what it would be like for you family to not accept you and to have hate for you to try and relate a little bit to people who are really in the situation. Some people make assumptions about people who mainly are gay that they are good at makeup, only have girl best friends, and have a very feminine body and voice. Stereotypes could negatively affect people who haven’t come out yet because they don’t want to be stereotyped because it’s not always true about the individual.

The LGBTQ comunity faces challenges throughout history relating to identity, diversity, and justice. Overall the LGBTQ comunity should have more support from everyone around them because they are just people like everyone else.
