The social group I chose to write about are immigrants. These stories show that immigrants try to leave their country of birth for different reasons whether it be to escape the dangers, a lot poverty, or to give a better live to their children.

The stories that I’ve read about this social group show experiences such as stereotypes.  For example, in this article it shows how these experiences show how hard it is to be an immigrant. Other words or ways that the individuals in this social group might use to describe themselves are newcomers, settlers, and migrants. The experiences that I share with individuals in this social group is that even if I am and call myself Mexican I only know the life in the U.S.A, so if I were to go to Mexico I would be lost. This experience is different than my experience because if I were to leave the country I am able to come back .

The individuals in this social group are different from one another because they all left their country of birth for different reasons whether it be for better jobs, living experience, the dangers of their countries . An example of this article it talks about the dangers of some of the immigrants countries of birth. Successes that the group has faced has been . Challenges that the group has faced is not knowing english and not having any type of work permit to work . Certain perspectives that are missing from this collection are how they come with good intentions to the U.S.A but are shut down by people because of all of the stereotypes changed over an immigrants head.

The challenges that individuals in this group face that other people outside the group might not understand are that immigrants have nothing secure it’s harder for them to get homes and jobs. I think that others can do the following to understand this social group: they should live in refugee for awhile, do something that does use your first language, and go to a different country and apply for job to see how hard it is to get anything while not knowing what to do.  Assumptions that people might make about people who identify within this social group could be the countries they come from don't send their best people. Stereotypes can negatively affect individuals who identify within this group because stereotypes are usually always negative even if you mean it with good intentions. Stereotyping is wrong because they are just “incomplete stories”. This quote is from writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie from her Ted Talk speech.

Communities can  come together to put some money together to donate to some kind of shelter for immigrants to help individuals within this social group. This will help the social group because it would give them a home for a while and so they won’t be out in the streets with their families. What I can do in particular to help this social group is talk about it more to bring more awareness to that case for right now.
