Refugees are people who have been forced to flee their country because of persecution, war or violence. They are usually discriminated against due to their race, ethnicity, religion, and opinions. They move for opportunity and a new life as well as safety. Refugees are extremely strong, brave and courageous.

Reading about refugee stories helps you get a better understanding of what it is like to be a refugee. These stories show how their social groups have a huge effect for why they move and where. They tend to move to where there friends and family are in chain migration. Refugees can be considered a minority and personally I have never experienced what a refugee has gone through, I feel sympathy for them.

There are different types of refugees many can be distinguished due to their race and religion. Refugees travel long distances usually with scarce amounts of necessities. Once they reach a camp they usually must trade something that they brought with them in order to stay there. They have to preserve what little amount of water they have at the camp and make due with it, they also have to be ready to move at any second. Few refugees really make it to safety away from their country but when they do their whole world changes in a good way. Refugees are not being heard, most feel as though they don’t have a voice or option which is another reason why they are forced to leave, for not just survival but justice.

No matter how many stories you hear, nobody can truly understand what a refugee has to go through. The fear you feel of waking up, not knowing if your home, family, and friends are safe, having to flee at any second. They do not have time or the opportunity to worry about things like education, because they are too busy worrying about if they can make it through next day nobody should have to go through this. There is nothing we can do to truly understand what these people are going through since we are not there with them but there are ways to help. By bringing more awareness to this topic and sharing stories audiences all over can feel more connected and want to empower refugees, letting them know they can do this. Some people choose to believe that there is no such thing as refugees and assume that they are all just moving away to steal their jobs but that is anything but the contrary. Refugees are real people with families and lives who need help, all of these negative stereotypes do nothing but create more damage to our world. People need to become more compassionate and empower one another.

People need to encourage refuges and let them know they can make it. They need our support. Refugees are just like you and me; they have families and lives but theirs are constantly in danger. You can help refugees by bringing more awareness, and hosting families in your homes. You can make a difference, you need to.
