The people of the native american social class have been through hundreds of years of success and adversity in tribes all around the country. Despite what they have been through many indigenous natives have shaped modern history as we know it, for the better. One of these people Jim Thorpe an olympic gold medalist who played for the cranton bulldogs in 1915. And won 2 gold medals in the 1912 summer olympics.
Many stories of important Natives are told everywhere, they show us bravery, triumph, and failure in their tribes throughout history. Identity plays an important role in Native American tradition, many books and movies are dedicated to this question of identity such as, “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” a true story based on teenager growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation, trying to find a purpose in a otherwise unfortunate situation.
The Native American population is a diverse one. Tribes all around the U.S hold different traditions and rules, making each one unique in its own way. A challenge natives have faced is removal from their land, in 1830 the Indian Removal act forced many Cherokee natives out of their lands into Oklahoma, this . Many treaties were made for the Native Americans, that promised to keep their land. Such as the Dawes act 1887 but the damage was done, many people died in the “trail of tears”.
Native americans as a whole have been mistreated throughout our country's beginning. After all we have done to them, they still forgive us. These individuals face many challenges throughout their life, but are at peace with it. I hope soon in the future we will see and insurgence of people willing to connect with the many different tribes, and cultures that came before us.
After every thing we have done to them, native americans keep their traditions alive and share a sense of community we can all learn from. Millions of people live on indian reservations so lets respect them. These amazing people were the first americans in this country, long before us so i think we owe it to help them out in any way we can to preserve this rich and beautiful culture. I hope reading this expanded your understanding on the native american population, and why it’s important to preserve this rich culture.
