There are many different social groups and minorities in the world. Latinos, however, have gone through a unique struggle. Whether it was discriminations in jobs, deportation, or school segregation, they experienced a great deal of hardship. What Latinos faced in America during the 1900s was very brutal and should never happen to any minority.
In the 1900s, millions of Mexicans faced deportation. During the Great Depression, the fear of loss of jobs and the economy was reason enough for the United States to deport 2 million people of mexican descent. 60% of whom were American citizens. Americans blamed Latinos for the loss of jobs and the collapse of the economy, this made Mexican-Americans uneasy and made it harder than it already was for them to get a job and make an impact on the economy.
Latinos also experienced discrimination in social scenarios as well. Unlike the South, which had strict segregation laws dividing African-Americans and whites, segregation was not implemented in South-Western United States. Even though there were no real laws, Mexicans were still excluded from things like restaurants, movie theatres, schools, etc. They were expected to attend “Mexican schools”.
Latinos are apart of a minority group that faced a great amount of discrimination. There have been many instances of this, whether it was segregation in schools, deportation, or unfair treatment by the law. As a social group, Mexicans were one of the most discriminated against in the United States.
