Individuals with Disabilities
People with disabilities are people who have a physical or mental condition that limits there movements, senses, or activities. Disabilities have been around for 100s of years and within those years the knowledge of different disabilities have grown and how to deal with them. Many stories show how people with disabilities live their life everyday. In one story about a Disabled girl with prosthetic leg who plays softball, it talks about how with technology prosthetics have been made to help her play softball just like any other girl on her team. In many words from these stories most people with a disability say they just want to be treated like everyone else and their no different from everyone else just like their human too. Most people have gone to school or seen people who may have disabilities or even some who have siblings or family members who are disabled. While growing up we are taught to treat people with disabilities no different then from someone who doesn’t have disabilities, we’re all human.
Many people who may not know much about disabilities think having a disabilities is mostly to just do with more know things like autism, down syndrome, or missing a limb but there's much more to it. There's 13 types of possible Conditions of disability under IDEA that define the different disabilities. Different types of disabilities include learning disabilities, health impairment, autism spectrum, emotional disturbance, speech/language impairment, visual impairment (including blindness), hearing impairment, brain injury, or having multiple disabilities. From some perspectives people often just group people who have a disability into this “stereotype’ not realizing how big the spectrum is of types of disabilities all making each person with it different from the other.
People with no disabilities often take advantage of everyday things like being able to walk, see, think cleary, etc. For an example in a article it talks about a College football players lunch date with boy with autism, small things like even having lunch are a big thing for someone with a disability. The mother of the son with autism saw a picture and heard about this football player sitting with her son brought her to tears of happiness. The reasoning for those tears is because most days she asks her son who he sat with and rarely he says with a classmate and the all the other days he's alone. Another example is about a woman named Brenna Huckaby who speaks on Difficulties with shopping with a disability. Buying clothes doesn’t seem like a big thing to many people but for those who may be missing a limp or have a body impairment this is a common challenge for them. Outside of just making clothes for different sizes and shapes there another side that the media forgets about, people with disabilities. People may make many assumptions about people with disabilities. They tend to think people with disabilities are less inclined to be able to do certain things due to their limitations whether physically or mentally. But that is wrong, yes there may be many things that they can’t do as well anymore or not at all but people shouldn’t limit them due to things that are different from them to ourselves.
Disabilities are limitations to a person either physically or mentally and have been around for a long time. While growing up kids are taught that even though someone may have disabilities or are different from them we treat all people the same and were all humans. People with disabilities are often grouped into one group of stereotypes when people don’t understand the spectrum of disabilities are much bigger than thought. When people have disabilities others tend to think that this limits them more than what is accurately right. After looking and reading through the different sites and stories i now more deeply understand the spectrum of disabilities and things that are different from their everyday life from ours. We need to understand how to treat them better and the same compared to how we would treat someone who doesn’t have disabilities. They are humans as well as us we should make the world more known to everyday issues they have to deal with that we don’t and how we can help them with these problems they have to go through.
This was very inspiring I can tell you put a lot of effort in your writing.
