Individuals with Disabilities

The social group collection that I chose is individuals with disabilities. I chose this social group because I think that people with disabilities should be able to do anything, Society thinks that all people with disabilities do is sit around in a wheelchair but in reality individuals with disabilities can play sports and do other things.I want to learn about this social group because disability awareness is important when its comes to breaking stereotypes .

The stories that I’ve read about this social group show experiences such as fighting through surgery and being bullied because of autism . These experiences show how strong they are now and how good they are at playing sports even with no legs and being born without tibias . Other words or ways that the individuals in this social group might use to describe themselves are strong, living life with no limits, never giving up  .

C4 The individuals in this social group are different from one another because they have all experienced something different whether it be that some of them don’t have legs or born with autism but each story is different . An example of this is Hasaan Hawthorne, he was born with tibias, the large lower leg bone that allows humans to stand but after surgery and hard decisions for his parents he has become the most valuable wrestler in Alabama . Successes that the group has faced has been being able to play sports and being treated like normal kids playing a normal sport . Some challenges that the group has faced is being bullied and being concerned if they will fit in, also not being able to do the things they love to do. Certain perspectives that are missing from this collection are people who have disabilities that can’t be view from outside

The challenges that individuals in this group face that other people outside the group might not understand are doing daily things can be hard, it can affect a person's capacity to communicate and learn how to live independently . I think that others can support and understand their situation  to understand this social group. Assumptions that people might make about people who identify within this social group could be that people with disabilities can’t do anything and need the help of someone 24/7. Stereotypes can negatively affect individuals who identify within this group because they can lose their hope that they can accomplish something. Stereotyping is wrong because sometimes they are incomplete and you don’t know the person's whole story.

Staying Active while living with a disability can help you strengthen your heart, build strong muscles and bones, improve coordination and make you feel good about yourself. People with should live their lives without limit. They should be allowed to play whatever sport they want to.6 year old Rosie is missing her left forearm and entire right leg but she still plays T-ball with a prosthetic leg made for running. After looking at this people with disabilities should not give up because nothing is impossible
