According to the Google Dictionary, stereotypes are a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Asian Americans make up 5.6 percent of the total US population. Some stereotypes that Asians are being perfect and getting into a university. It is important to understand issues regarding stereotypes, diversity, and justice surrounding Asian Americans.

During my experience being Asian American I have learned that we are supposed to be perfect and in my case make my grandparents happy.  These experiences show only the surface of Asians Americans. Most Asian Americans are smart, but not all. But we all have one thing in common we work hard to get the job done. The experiences that I share with Asian Americans, is hard work and it may not be just school work, but like sports. My experience is probably close or really close to other Asian Americans who experience the same life as me.

The individuals in this social group are different from one another because of how they were treated back then. An example of this is Project seeks stories of Chinese railroad workers by Julie Makinen is about how most of the Asians didn’t get credit for building the railroad, but the white people did. Successes that the group has faced has been that more people realize that Asians built the Continental Railroad. Challenges that the group has faced is not getting credit, but being treated poorly like not getting paid as much and not getting respect. Certain perspectives that are missing from this collection are that they aren’t just workers.

The challenges that individuals in this group face that other people outside the group might not understand are how hard it is to get someone's approval. I think that others can do the following to understand this social group by not making assumptions that someone else made. Assumptions that people might make about people who identify within this social group could be smart and how everything is easy. Stereotypes can negatively affect individuals who identify within this group because they could be bullied by it. Stereotyping is wrong because it puts a negative , but sometimes positive outlook at the social group.

Communities may change or will not change because it is a very hard thing to do to change someone's mind. I’ve learned to accept that I’m Asian. I can’t away from or run through the stereotypes because it will just cause more problems. So, I run with the stereotypes I embrace the stereotypes because if you don't it’ll hurt even more than just embracing it. I learned to just love myself for being Asian and not try be someone else.
