Asian Americans

Introduction:
Throughout history, there have been different kind of communities and social groups. I will be writing about the Asian-American social group. Asian-Americans have been mistreated throughout American history. Some examples are not getting credit for railroads and being segregated from everyone during WW2. It is important to understand the identity of Asian-Americans, diversity, and what we could do to better improve our understanding of Asian-Americans.

Identity:
The experience of being Asian American means that there is a chance you have been under-represented, especially in older US culture. For example, the Chinese American railroad workers came to the United States to build our railroads. Then, 100 years later, Transportation Secretary John Volpe gave all the credit for building the railroads to American workers (Newsela.com). Asian-Americans would likely refer to themselves as proud Americans but also underrated. I feel that Hispanic people are also underrepresented because most Americans see us as bad people who take jobs, only do stuff with drugs, and commit crimes.

Diversity:
Asian-American cultures have many differences, one of them being how successful they are. According to Newsela, Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders are the highest earning and most educated race in the United States. While there are successful Asian-Americans, some struggle with things like mental health, language, and food stamps (Newsela.com). I think that we’re missing the Asian-American view from the articles.

Justice:
Being Asian-American haves its ups and downs, one of them being Japanese-American during WW2. During WW2 if you were Japanese-American, you and your family would be sent to an internment camp. Americans didn’t want to take chances thinking that any Japanese-American could be a spy that send information to Japan. What we could do to understand the community is to learn more about Asian-American people to better understand them.

Conclusion:
It is important to understand the identity of Asian-Americans, diversity, and what we could do to better improve our understanding of Asian-Americans. Being Asian-American, there’s a big chance that you get under represented for your work. Being Asian-American also means that you’re more likely to be smarter than most people. Even worse, you would have been separated from the public during WW2. Social groups have been around for a very long time and some have hated each other.
