American Muslims

The social group collection that I chose is american muslims . I chose this social group because I want to learn more about American Muslims. I want to learn more about this group because this group is really interesting and it is just wrong to call people out just because they are wearing a headscarf or that they are they are different  .

The stories that I’ve read about this social group show experiences such as  headscarves mark muslim women as targets or a muslim got rejected for wearing a headscarves. For example A Muslim girl who was rejected for a job at Abercrombie & Fitch because she wore a headscarf, also called a hijab. The girl, who was 17 years old, had accused the popular clothing store chain of discriminating against her simply because she is Muslim” (Newsela.com). These experiences show how wrong it to reject a muslim women just because she is wearing a headscarf. Other words or ways that the individuals in this social group might use to describe themselves are rude. This experience are both similar and different because than my experience because if my family wore headscarves in america i think they would get rejected by stores and jobs but if they live in the middle east were most people wear headscarves they wouldn't get rejected because it is most likely for people in the middle east for people to wear headscarves than in the united states.

The individuals in this social group are different from one another because  each social group is different and they have different problems than other social groups. For example muslim teen hopes to help diversify emojis with a hijab version.”Rayouf Alhumedhi a 15 year old muslim girl was and her friends wear chatting on whatsapp the other day they chat using emojis that matches them but since rayouf wears a headscarf unfortunately they don't have a emoji that suits her so she comes up with a plan to go to apple and suggest that they should do a hijab emoji for all people that wear headscarves she hopes that the plan works cause it would be really nice if she did it  she is still waiting for apple to reply with her message and hoping for the best.  Newsela). Challenges she has faced is trying to ask the apple store for doing a hijab emoji. xIn the article leilah Abdennabi was parking, she had been harassed by an elderly white man in the cafe. He suggested that Abdennabi did not know how to drive and “should go back to Saudi Arabia. Some challenges that faced was that the guy thought if she was wearing a headscarf that means she is muslim, the guy suggested that the girl sold shoo him because he thinks she is a criminal or the guy suggested that she should go back to her country. (Newsela)

The challenges that individuals in this social group face are who people got rejected because they are wearing a headscarf or they don't have an emoji for the people that wear headscarf. Assumptions that people might make about people who identify within this social group could be if they wear a headscarf they are muslim or if they wear a headscarf they are religious. Stereotyping is wrong because you can't just assume people's culture based on their culture.

Communities can stop telling people with hijabs to go back to their countries  to help individuals within this social group. This will help the social group because people will  learn to stop being rude to specific people like people who wears a headscarf . What I can do in particular to help this social group is to tell them to be more confident in where they came from and be proud and to not let yourself down just because someone told you something mean.
