African Americans

I decided to do the project on african americans and use the black lives matter website along with the newsela Colleges leave black male athletes behind at graduation time. Black people overall have been seen as the lesser race in the united states since the very start of our country. They were enslaved until 1865. Then once they were able to use the same things that white people used, mlk the leader of this whole entire movement was then killed in 1968. Now we are in 2019 and it has improved but it’s still a big problem that needs to be fixed. There will always be racist people but as long as we stay not racist and we keep our children clean, racism will flee.

What these stories show about the experience of being in the African American social group is black people have not have had/have all the same opportunities that others ethnicities have had. In my almost 16 years of living, in my memory I have never had to experience anything that the average African American endures every day.

People in that social group are different from each other because some are fully engaged in school and epidemics and some are focused on sports and athletics. With African Americans/Black people, 1/50 students at colleges are black. And half of the college football and basketball teams contain black students. So what i’m saying is black people have huge success in athletics and i’m not sure if thats racist or makes any sense but yeah. I can’t relate to black people being treated unfairly or being seen as the lesser but it must be rough.

Some challenges black people have that I have a hard time understanding is having to worry about encountering with police officer due to police brutality. There is nothing that other races can do to be able to relate to an African American because it's not possible to change your ethnicity. Some assumptions that people might make toward black people/African Americans is that they say the N word or they play basketball but that's just a racist stereotype. Stereotypes make people feel bad about themselves and they feel self conscious about their race stereotype.

So in conclusion Stereotypes can make a huge effect on people. Some are bad some are not but I think to stay safe. Nobody should throw around stereotypes so people's feelings don't get hurt.
