Native Americans

On May 28th 1830 president Andrew Jackson enacted the “Indian Removal Act” a relocation policy with the intention of taking native lands around Mississippi river, If tribes refused to give up their land peacefully, our government would take it by brute force. It Is estimated that somewhere around 17,000 native americans were killed during this time. This one historical example of the oppression Native Americans have faced for hundreds of years now. Even in 2019 we still see non-natives trying to claim land from indigenous people, and building pipelines in  sovereign nations.
For centuries the native american people have been severely misrepresented in pop culture, institutions like the Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Indians have blatantly racist mascots that portray a stereotypical red skinned man with a feathered headdress. Native Americans are upset with the representation they recieve and they are rightfully so, all of their traditions and their culture is mocked by the same people who took their land from them in the first place.
