Assumptions upon Latino/a and Hispanics

There are many groups in our society which have stereotypes or assumptions which have been wrong sometimes. The group I am going to talk about today is the Latino/Hispanic group. This group has faced many issues which have been things like where people assume or stereotype them. After putting so man stereotypes and assumptions upon them it makes them believe that it is true we have to make this right and let them be who they really are.
Identity:

The people in this group is very big if you call them Hispanic or Latino that is very vague and vast and not very specific to who you are talking about. They sometimes become assumed to be part of a country when they are not according to Hispanic Heritage Month aims to embrace many different traditions. People who are from other cultures are often thought of as Mexicans when they could be Hondurans, Chilean, or El Salvadorians. We have to respect others of how they identify themselves and what they are we shouldn’t go quick to assume things because they do different things in their lives and they aren’t the same people.
Diversity:

Not all Hispanics are the same besides the culture example they could celebrate different things as other Hispanics or practice different religions. For example some Hispanics celebrate only Christmas meanwhile for Mexicans it doesn’t end there they keep going till January 6 where the kids keep receiving gifts from Dia de los Reyes Magos. But also some Hispanics have no connection with talking in Spanish at all meanwhile some people assume that we can’t speak English well when we can this can like in the article More Latinos grow up in English-only homes, study finds.A point of view that is missing is adults they probably have more experience with this diversity among Hispanics.
Justice:

Hispanics or Latinos shouldn’t be thought as the same thing, it’s like thinking baseball and tennis are the same just because they both have a small ball in it. To understand that Hispanics and Latinos are not the same the most they could do is spend time with those people to understand our diversity what I could do is probably show my diversity for I am Mexican and help others understand. Assumptions could hurt people we could do something and take Cesar Chavez as a role model shown in the article Activist and Labor Organizer: Cesar Chavez. When you keep doing this this group accept what they are called and think that they are different just because they don’t fit in and they try to be like the rest.
Action:
We should see people the way they are by their characteristics and not by what society says about them. There are many cultures and identities in a word like Latino/Hispanic and it is very vague and not very specific. Hispanics and Latinos celebrate and do different things in their life and their lives aren’t the same. When you keep assuming things on this group you make them eventually believe this and see this as their identity. To feel comfortable around this group or understand them more just spend more time around them and you will see their normal schedules and they aren’t so different than what most people think they are.
